Abudus hail Asantehene’s condemnation of politicians
Ya-Na

The national spokesperson for the Abudu royals in Dagbon, Dr. Ziblim Iddi has endorsed the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu’s call for politicians to stay away from the protracted Dagbon chieftaincy crisis.

At a grand durbar to mark the 40th Anniversary of the Juabenhene in Kumasi over the weekend, the Asantehene asserted that the NDC and the NPP are largely to blame for the difficulty in resolving the Dagbon crisis.

Dr. Iddi said the Asantehene’s call is in the right direction but blamed the government for using state security to support the Andanis to execute what he described as an illegality, referring to the recent enskinment of the Savelugu chief to buttress his claims.

“If you have a government that is supposed to be an honest broker in the peace process taking sides in the traditional matters as far as the enskinment of the Savelugu chief is concerned, it does not augur well for the peace in Dagbon,” Dr. Iddi told Citi News.

“What happened in the last two weeks in reference to the enskinment of the Savelugu chief by the Kampakuya-Naa was an illegality carried under the guise of the state apparatus through which the military and the police provided protection to the Dagbon Regent to go ahead with the enskinment,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dr. Yahuza Gomda from the Andani Gate said the Otumfuo’s call is of no significance to the Andani royal family. He saw nothing wrong with the performance of funerals and the replacement of new chiefs for the vacant areas.

In a related development, Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, General Secretary of the NPP blamed the NDC for over-politicizing the Dagbon crisis.

He asserted that the NDC government has taken sides in the matter.

On the other hand, Kofi Adams, a deputy NDC General Secretary of the ruling NDC also supported the Asantehene’s standpoint but insisted that government will use every legitimate means to apprehend the murderers of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II.

He described the death of the Yaa-Naa as “unpardonable crime” which must not be condoned for which reason every effort must be made to find the killers.
